Max Zentawer is a household name to many listeners of modern contemporary jazz and Brazilian music who play the guitar in jazz. On his latest releases, the guitarist, who lives in Freiburg i. Brsg., can be heard on a solo production that was highly praised by the press as well as in various highly acclaimed trio lineups. Zentawer embarks with his two colleagues, guitarist Felix Rehmann and bassist Stephan Vögele, on a journey back to the early days of swing of the 1940s as well as the French Valse Musette. But the title is program! For Max Zentawer adds surprisingly modern elements to the nostalgic charm that characterizes this music in his own compositions, thus evading all comparisons to the genre-typical Jazz Manouche or "Gypsy Jazz". As a soloist, he also remains largely true to his modern style of playing, and so connoisseurs and lovers of fine interactive jazz improvisation will also get their money's worth.
